1860's Patek Philippe Antique Mens Midsize 42mm Hunter Case Pocket Watch - 18K Gold

Patek Philippe

Item No. 7612

The beautiful and very fine pocket watch showcased in today's offering is an original example of one of Patek's late key wind watches. It features a Patek caliber with distinctive moustache counterpoise on the lever, frosted gilt finishing, and self-compensating flat balance spring.

It was made especially for the prestigious Washington D.C. jeweler M.W. Galt & Bro. Their shop was situated on Pennsylvania Ave. six blocks east of the White House, and their clientele is said to have included many Presidents beginning with Thomas Jefferson, Mary Todd Lincoln, and many other notable government leaders.

When they closed on March 8, 2001, they were the District's oldest business having operated continuously for nearly two centuries since their founding in 1802.

Included in the photo section is a photo of their showroom and their imprint.

It is original with a numbers matching case and is in pleasing condition.

Its untouched porcelain dial is in perfect mint condition, flawless even under the bezel. Its case is in honest original condition with fairly light wear, a couple pin prick marks, and one very small flat spot around the band.

One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year international C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.

Accompanying it is a period key. Please inquire if you would like a Patek extract for the watch.

Patek Philippe:
Patek Philippe bears the standard of the finest watch manufacturer in the world and holds world records for the most expensive watches in the world.

During the 1860's and '70's, Patek Philippe produced only fewer than approximately twenty watches per day (contrast this with Omega and other fine watch manufacturers that produced 500 - 1,200 pieces per day) making original examples very rare and collectable.
