1938 Tiffany & Co. by IWC Vintage Watch with Cresarrow Case - 18K Gold

Tiffany & Co.

Item No. 8958SH

In the 1930's, no name better captured the idea of embracing the best life had to offer than that of Tiffany & Co. One of their special offerings to their most discriminating gentleman clients was a line of jeweled watches emblazoned with the Tiffany & Co. name on the dial. Although the maker's name were always hidden, the retailer contracted with a number of the world's fine watch and jewelry making firms to produce these treasured timepieces.

The exclusive mens IWC wristwatch built especially for Tiffany & Co. showcased in this offering is a wonderful example of this phenomenon.

Its gorgeous eight-sided case was made especially for Tiffany & Co by the esteemed casemaker Henry Blank. Crafted from 18K gold, it would have been a high-level offering. While not a large watch, it is pleasingly larger than many similarly shaped watches from the era.

Mr. Blank company's Cresarrow of New York, was one of the best case manufacturers of the day. Founded in the late nineteenth century, Cresarrow contracted with Patek Philippe, Vacheron & Constantin, IWC, Tiffany & Co. and other firms to build certain cases for the U.S. market.

Powering the watch is its IWC caliber 83 engine that is higher grade than most with a full six adjustments for precision timekeeping.

We were fortunate with all-original parts, down to the hands and even original winding crown.

Its case is scratch-free with moderate signs of previous polishing. On the wrist, it presents nicely.

Its dial presents beautifully! We really love it. It may be original or it may have been a very high quality refinishing done long ago. Its luminous numbers have a fabulous style and it very clean. And its original matching blue steel hands really stand out at certain angles.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components, reassembling and lubricating the movement, installing a new mineral glass crystal, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value). Photos of the inside available upon request.

After more than 80 years, it is running amazingly strong and true, keeping time better than most brand new high-end watches.

For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new Swiss leather strap designed for fixed lug use making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.

Your watch is important to us, and we will take care of it for its lifetime. We provide the best after sale care in the business with an extremely experienced team of four Master Watchmakers all of whom each have over thirty-five years of experience and a large number of parts. One has done contract work for IWC and their Richemont Service Center and also used to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker for a Rolex authorized dealer.

If you are looking for a special treasure for someone in your life, this is it. Modern Tiffany watches don't match the charm and history of this vintage original.
