1940's Movado Vintage Triple Calendar Moon Phase - Stainless Steel & 14K Gold - The Celestograph

Movado

Item No. 5517

Today's offering showcases this beautiful original gold top Movado Celestograph.

It is a superior original example of one of the company's sought after triple date calendar with moon phase watches. Powered by a complicated Movado movement, the watch tracks the date, day of the week, month, and phases of the moon.

Its full size gold and stainless steel case with pleasing turtle lugs is in near mint condition. Its two-tone dial is original and much nicer than most. And its Movado movement is very clean.

Our watchmaker has freshly cleaned and oiled the movement.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

Please note: A published example of this model can be found in Fritz von Osterhausen's work The Movado History, 1996, p. 127.

Movado's complicated watches:
During Movado's glorious period from 1912 through the 1950's, when such innovations as the polyplan movement, Calendomatic, and exceptional in-house chronographs pushed the envelope of horological technology, and original designs such as the Museum watch took their place in history, their wristwatches enjoyed a level of prestige reserved only for works of the finest watchmakers.

Usually when things are complicated, it means more stress, more work, and more effort, but at the end of the day, it's worth it. The same holds true for vintage wristwatches, where gifted artisans and engineers from years gone by labored months and years to create complicated timepieces that transcend art and talent. When it comes to vintage wristwatches, the highest realms of respect and value are reserved for these watches that do more than merely tell time.
