1942 Rolex Oyster WWII Vintage Ladies Ref. 4060 Handwound Watch with Box - Stainless Steel

Rolex

Item No. 8386SH

One of Rolex's greatest contributions to horology is in the area of waterproof cases. The Rolex Oyster watch, which featured a unique case and patented screw down crown that offered its owner complete protection against water, dust, and perspiration, birthed the idea of the modern sport watch as we know it and was a catalyst for the initial widespread acceptance of the wristwatch.

Several events worked to greatly popularize the watch: Sir Malcolm Campbell's land speed record attempt where he achieved a speed of 272 mpg, all done while wearing perfectly functioning Oyster. And perhaps the most well-known early event in the company's history: Mercedes Gleitz's English Channel swim wearing an Oyster. Following the historic event, Rolex took out a full-page ad in the Daily Mail introducing the Oyster.

Today's offering showcases this wonderful and uncommon all-original vintage ladies Rolex Oyster with Rolex band and buckle and very rare original clam shell box!

A watch for a true connoisseur, it is in a sense, a time capsule piece.

Made circa 1942, while World War II was in full swing, its case features Rolex's Oyster technology, and it retains its original Oyster Patent + crown..

Beating away inside our watch is its diminutive handwound Rolex movement complete with Super Balance system and two adjustments for greater accuracy.

It presents in wonderful condition. All parts are original. The case presents as better than near mint and still has its original Rolex factory applied satin finish. It untouched original silver dial shows fairly light aging and has warmed to a light sepia tone, giving it a true vintage look.

One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

An uncommon all-original early Oyster with band, buckle, and rare clam shell box that will enhance the collection of a vintage watch enthusiast (or perhaps entice a Rolex collector's wife into the delightful world of vintage watches).
