In the 1930's through the 50's, in the midst of their high output of utilitarian Oyster sports watches, Rolex also made much more elegant dress watches. These fine wristwatches often combine a superior hand-wound mechanism with beautiful aesthetics.
The elegant and sophisticated Rolex Precision showcased in today's offering is a very fine original example of this phenomenon, likely made shortly after the end of World War II. It features pleasing styling and a well-executed handwound movement.
We really love the aesthetic of this watch with its rose gold case top with distinctive claw lugs, thin bezel, and classic dial. Its large dial and small bezel make it wear even larger than its dimensions.
Its original rose gold "feuille" hands, rose gold Arabic numerals, and counterweighted blued steel sweep seconds hand all beautifully complement and contrast its bi-color rose gold and steel construction.
It has a less common sweep seconds function and technical dial with 1/5 second markings that served the needs of men in technical, sporting, and racing fields. We really like the combination on the watch - its pleasingly blends a distinctive dress style with high performance.
Powering the watch is its original Rolex caliber 700 movement with "Super Balance" system and an early shock resistance system.
It has all of its original parts with the only possible exception of the crown, which is period correct but likely a replacement.
Its case, which pleasingly has never been more than lightly polished, presents as excellent condition with light wear and light aging to the steel near the engine bay. It retains very nice lines and strongly retains its coronet logo on the back.
Its dial is original and untouched, in excellent condition with fairly light aging.
One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn or aging components with genuine Rolex parts including the sweep second pinion and sweep second pinion spring, installing a new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $1295 value).
We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap and aftermarket Rolex style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
Don't miss the opportunity to own the perfect midsized complement to your sporty Datejust, Sub, GMT, or Daytona.
