The wonderful caliber 89 IWC featured in today's offering showcases what makes vintage IWC's so special.
It is quite large for a dress watch from the era - measuring 36mm in diameter without the crown, it is the same width as a Rolex Datejust and only one millimeter smaller than a Patek "King Size" ref. 2481.
Its large dial gives it an even larger presence on the wrist than its full size dimensions.
Powered by one of the most highly-regarded manually wound movements ever made, talked about in the same sentence as Pateks, the watch is rich in technical details.
The movement was designed by IWC's renowned technical director Albert Pellaton and chosen by the company to power their famous Mark 11 military watches.
Housing the fine movement is its elegant and large 18K gold case. IWC equipped the case with dramatic claw style lugs, giving it a distinctive and very pleasing style.
Its parts are original down to all of the hands. The only replacement part is the crown.
Its case presents very nicely on the wrist. It has one flat area on the left size that very slightly affects how the movement sits. The rest of the case is better than near mint with a clear hallmark.
Its dial has just been restored by one of the leading dial experts in North America. One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
