1949 Omega Cosmic Vintage Triple Date, Moon Phase Watch - Stainless Steel

Omega

Item No. 9281

In 1947, Omega released to the world the first complicated watch featuring a moon phase readout it had ever built. Called the Cosmic, it was complex even in comparison to today's watches, and could display the month, date, and day of the week with moon phase. When set correctly it could be used as a precision instrument or as a display of incredible workmanship purchased to adorn a deserving gentleman's wrist.

Today's offering showcases this lovely Cosmic encased in stainless steel.

It presents beautifully on the wrist. Its classic case has aging and pitting to the back - on the wrist, it presents as just short of mint. Its silver dial with its apertures for displaying the month, day, and phases of the moon has been previously well-restored. Its day, month, and moon phase dials are untouched.

A Master Watchmaker has fully serviced its original complicated caliber 27DL (381) movement which consists of fully disassembling the movement down to the last screw, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with correct genuine Omega replacements, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $995 value).

It is keeping time nearly on par with a new Omega in our testing position.

For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap and an aftermarket Omega style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment. We also have new vintage distressed style straps that would look very nice on it. Please inquire if you're interested.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

Note: An example of this model resides in the Omega Museum in Switzerland. A published example can be seen in Marco Richon's work, Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 471.

Complicated Omegas:
Usually when things are complicated, it means more stress, more work, and more effort, but in the end, it's worth it. The same holds true for vintage wristwatches, where gifted artisans and engineers from years gone by labored months and years to create complicated timepieces that transcend art and talent. When it comes to vintage wristwatches, the highest realms of respect and value are reserved for these watches that do much more than merely tell time.
