In 1947, Omega released to the world the first complicated watch featuring a moon phase readout it had ever built. Called the Omega Cosmic, it was extremely complex even in comparison to today's watches, and could display the month, date, and day of the week with moon phase When set correctly it could be used as a precision instrument or as a display of incredible workmanship purchased to adorn a deserving gentleman's wrist.
Today's offering showcases this beautiful and uncommon example of the Cosmic, encased in 18K rose gold. 18K gold examples were the top of the line for this high-end line.
It has all of its original parts.
Its 18K rose gold is shapely with a great design. It is in excellent condition with no indentions in the soft 18K gold as is common with these. It shows only light remnants of wear. It retains a crisp unpolished hallmark on the right side. On the wrist it presents beautifully.
Its silver dial with its apertures for displaying the month, day, and phases of the moon is bright and clean. It was restored in vintage times and shows only light aging. Its subdials are original and untouched.
One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced its original complicated movement which consists of fully disassembling the movement down to the last screw, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $995 value).
It is running very strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a brand new Omega in our testing recording position.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new Teju lizard strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
Note: An example of this model resides in the Omega Museum in Switzerland. A published example can be seen in Marco Richon's work, Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 471.

Complicated Omegas:
Usually when things are complicated, it means more stress, more work, and more effort, but in the end, it's worth it. The same holds true for vintage wristwatches, where gifted artisans and engineers from years gone by labored months and years to create complicated timepieces that transcend art and talent. When it comes to vintage wristwatches, the highest realms of respect and value are reserved for these watches that do much more than merely tell time.
