1950's Movado Vintage Mens "In-House" Automatic Cushion Watch - 18K Rose Gold

Movado

Item No. 8715

During Movado's glorious period from 1912 through the 1950's, when such innovations as the polyplan movement, Calendomatic, and exceptional in-house chronographs pushed the envelope of horological technology, and original designs such as the Museum watch took their place in history, their wristwatches enjoyed a level of prestige reserved only for works of the finest watchmakers.

The gorgeously elegant gentleman's Movado automatic watch showcased in today's offering is a prime example of one of these wristwatches. Its case is masculinely elegant and overly small.

A bit suggestive in style of the renowned Vacheron & Constantin "Cioccolatone", one of the most sought-after shaped watch from the 1950's, named by the Italians for its resemblance to a large chunk of chocolate, this Movado is particularly pleasing with its canted corner outline and faceted lugs.

While not large, it large dial gives it a bit of a bigger presence on the wrist than its diameter would suggest.

Powering the watch is Movado's very fine "in-house" Cal. 115 movement made at the company's workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds. At the time the company claimed it was the world's thinnest automatic movement.

Its balanced silver dial with faceted rose gold indices nicely complements the look of the rest of the watch.

Its case presents in gorgeous condition - just short of mint with only slight signs of previous polishing. Both hallmarks are strong.

Its dial has previously been restored in vintage time and shows hardly any aging. Please inquire if you would like a fresh expertly done restoration. And its well-made movement is running strong and true.

One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealership and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center and also has done authorized work for the Richemont brands including Cartier, Vacheron & Constantin, IWC, JLC and others, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn parts with genuine replacements, installing a new mainspring, a new mineral glass crystal, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $795 value).

For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch's performance.
