1953 Rolex Oysterdate Vintage Mens Handwound Watch with Red Date - Stainless Steel & 18K Gold

Rolex

Item No. 9225

One of the desirable non-sport vintage Rolex watches right now is the Oysterdate Precision. It's a watch that is perfectly at home being worn everyday or only for special occasions. Produced from the early-1950's into the 1980's, it was a strong commercial success for Rolex, winning a large following.

Part of it current appeal is that with the ever-increasing prices of vintage Rolexes, they are among the more affordable options yet still have a date.

Today's offering proudly showcases this uncommon ref. 6094 Certified Pre-Owned mens Rolex Oysterdate in gorgeous restored condition - on the wrist it presents virtually like a new Rolex.

The 6094 served as one of the early predecessors to the more commonly seen 6694. A stylish watch, it features a more mid-century look than some of the subsequent Oysterdates. Its gold accents give it a more dressed-up style than all steel models and make it work well with a wider range of both casual and business attire.

Housed in one of Rolex's water-tight Oyster cases, the wristwatch originally offered its owner complete protection against water, dust, and perspiration. Inside the rugged case Rolex placed one of the last examples of their caliber 740 Super Balance movements, the handwound model that was the base mechanism for their Bubbleback automatics.

One of the distinctive traits of the 6094 is their date wheel with all of the numbers done in red. The markers on this example are also wonderfully inset into the dial, a design Rolex used on a few of their mid-century pieces. This Rolex really checks the boxes.

It has had a true expertly done sympathetic restoration. It is fully Rolex with original parts down to all of its hands.

Its case presents as just short of mint with spots of wear around the knurled grooves in the case back. When viewing the inside of the case back its apparent that that area has been previously reinforced. On the wrist it presents as mint with light signs of previous polishing.

Its dial has been meticulously restored - its printing could pass as Rolex factory done to the naked eye and the markers have been repainted with a sympathetic sepia tone.

A Master Watchmaker has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and timing testing and regulation (a $495 value).

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new calfskin leather strap and aftermarket Rolex style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
