1960 Omega Seamaster Vintage Mens Very Rare Extra Large 38mm Watch - Stainless Steel

Omega

Item No. 4167

This is one of those watches that if you're someone who is accustomed to constantly seeing many vintage watches, when you come across it you just have to buy it.

It ticks all the boxes.... It's large for the era which makes it instantly more desirable; its very rare; it is from a widely-admired maker; and it is in beautiful original condition. So when I had the opportunity to buy it about three years ago, I jumped at the chance and immediately put it in my personal collection.

Now, wanting to make some room for my next acquisition, sadly (for me at least) I have decided to let it go to the next good home.

So our offering today showcases this cool and rare all original 38mm Omega Seamster 2976. Thinking back, I only recall ever seeing one or possibly two other examples in my past research of this model.

I don't know why Omega decided to make a "plain" Seamaster model this large, significantly larger than its similar watches at the time, but it looks like a fairly traditional Seamaster except everything has been upsized. With the crown the diameter is almost 41mm. And it measures 48mm long!

Because of its size, they had to use a movement retaining ring for the caliber 501 and the large hypocampus logo on the caseback doesn't even fill up the back's center section.

Its beautiful two-tone dial is original and just short of mint, light toned to a more sepia tone. I don't believe I've seen this dial on this model - the other example I clearly recall had a plain silver dial.

It is fully Omega down to the original hands, crown, and signed original crystal.

Powering the watch is the higher jewel (20) caliber 501 movement with fine regulation. It is very clean. The case shows only light signs of ever being previously polished and presents very nicely.

The movement was cleaned and oiled about three years ago, and then was just lightly gone through again in advance of this sale. I have a period Omega box that it could be paired with as well if you would like.

Like usual, included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function.

A very rare Seamaster for the discerning Omega collector.
