1960's Rolex Vintage Mens Ultra Thin Pre-Cellini Handwound Dress Watch - 14K Gold

Rolex

Item No. 10176SH

In vintage times, in the midst of their high output of utilitarian sports watches, Rolex also made much more elegant dress watches. These fine wristwatches often combine a superior mechanism with beautiful aesthetics.

The ultra-thin gentleman's vintage Rolex made for the U.S. market showcased in today's offering is a classic example of this phenomenon. It features timeless, elegant styling and a superbly executed handwound movement.

Epitomizing the essence of 'the classic watch' remembered today, it features a manually wound movement, round gold case, understated dial, slender hands, and simple baton markers. As one prominent watch writer aptly stated about a similar watch, "The extra-slim watch, whose style embraces only the strict essentials, has continued to seduce for its elegance and discretion."

Powering the watch is Rolex very fine "ultra slim" cailber 1600 movement adjusted to two positions, a higher-grade engine than often found in U.S. market Rolex watches.

The case is a mens midsize, best suited for something who doesn't have a large wrist - its is the size of similarly styled AP's from the era.

It has all of its original parts. Its case presents nicely on the wrist. The lugs appear to bow just slightly, and it appears that an inscription was previously polished off of the case back leaving some rippling there.

Its silver dial, which some would say is original, we think was restored decades ago in vintage times and is still very clean.

One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker (for many years now Rolex has not "certified" watchmakers, they only "train" them), has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex parts, installing a new Rolex mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).

It is running strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new Rolex in our testing position.

For the finishing touch, we have installed a brand new genuine crocodile strap and aftermarket Rolex style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Accompanying the watch are a Rolex service box, booklet, and polishing cloth.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity and a new timing certificate.

Don't miss the opportunity to own a complement to your sporty Datejust, Submariner, or Daytona.
