Today's offering showcases this very fine mens high-beat Ulysse Nardin. It has a pleasing retro styled case and royal blue dial.
It is full size measuring 35mm in diameter without the crown, in between the sizes of a Rolex Date and a Datejust. And like a Rolex, it is powered by an automatic movement that has been officially certified as chronometer, the highest distinction given to a watch movement.
Besides being a certified chronometer, it also features a high frequency 36,000 beats per hour balance system, twice the speed of many traditional watches and the fastest beat rate of the era, insuring exceptional accuracy.
Only a few specialist models of watches from a handful of brands beat at 36,000 per hour. As both a high frequency watch and an officially certified chronometer, the two high-end features not generally associated with precision timekeeping, this watch would have been among the very best when it came to accuracy in a widely-produced watch at the time.
It has just finished a true expertly done cosmetic restoration and presents in gorgeous condition. It presents as about a 9.7 out of 10.
The shapely case with water-resistant style screw down back presents as just short of perfect mint with light aging around the edge of the engine bay as is common with these. On the wrist the case presents as gorgeous mint.
Its regal dial, which has a timeless design, has been meticulously restored - the printing could pass as UN factory done to the naked eye. It has a much deeper and rich darker tone than our photos suggest. They couldn't begin to do it justice.
As part of the restoration, the fine movement has been freshly overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. It is very clean and running exceptionally strong and true as one would expect for a movement like this.
Amazingly after half of a century, it continues to keep more accurate time in our testing position than most brand new high-end watches made today. Photos of the inside available upon request. Note that it is slightly stiff to handwind. If you would prefer never to handwind it, it's a great candidate to be placed on a watch winder for convenience.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new calfskin leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
A five decade old classic Ulysse Nardin high-frequency chronometer that presents like new on the wrist!
Ulysse Nardin:
Ulysse Nardin is best known by many collectors for creating chronometers, extremely accurate time keeping instruments. Their marine chronometer used by ship's captains to plot and follow the correct course while at sea. By employing sextants and chronometers, a captain could track the changes in his course over time and determine the exact location of his ship, and Nardin's marine chronometers were among the most reliable and sought after.
