The Seamaster, showcasing both refinement and high function, was the most important Omega line from a sales perspective from the latter part of the 1960's into the 1970's.
Today's offering showcases this rare, classic and pleasing Seamaster with rare caliber 560 movement of which only 3,000 examples were made. These movements were split across nine models, making each in effect a "limited edition." The 560 was a movement made only for the U.S. market to cut down on import tariffs.
It was one of Omega's superior 500 series movements, one of the last series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs, and one of the finest mass-produced automatic movements from era.
It is close to full size for the era - 34.5mm, which is in between the size of the Rolex Date and the Rolex Datejust.
This pleasing example has all of its original Omega parts even down to its original signed crystal and original waterproofing gasket!
Its case is in excellent condition with moderate signs of previous polishing. Its untouched original dial presents as just short of perfect mint to the naked eye with slight aging visible under magnification.
A Master Watchmaker has freshly serviced the movement. We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time nearly on par with a new Omega.
For the finishing touch, it comes with a new leather strap and aftermarket Omega style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
Note: Published examples of similar watches can be found in Marco Richon's work Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 403.
