Today's offering showcases this very fine LeCoultre Memovox in pleasing original condition. It is a classic example of a LeCoultre alarm and has a less common solid 14K gold case.
As mid-century approached and lifestyle paces moved faster and faster, top Swiss firms needed a way to enhance the experiences of their now frequently traveling top clients and to help him better organize and govern his most precious possession - his time. In response to this need the engineers at Jaeger-LeCoultre created an alarm wristwatch in 1951.
The watches featured a fully mechanical alarm system. To pull off this difficult task, Jaeger-LeCoultre equipped these watches with significant inner alarm gearing and even an additional stem and crown, making elements of the second movement that worked seamlessly in conjunction with the normal timing portion.
Our Memovox measures 34mm in diameter, the same size as a Rolex Date model, although it large face and thin case make it wear a couple of millimeters larger than that.
All of its parts except for one crown are original. Its solid gold case presents very nicely on the wrist. The back has light remnants of wear - otherwise it is scratch-free. The untouched original dial is clean with light aging around the very periphery.
One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components, installing a brand new correct mainspring and new mineral glass crystal to give a clear view to the very extreme edge of the dial, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and timing testing and regulation (a $795 value). The watch's amplitude is incredibly strong. Photos of the inside available upon request.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a new Italian calfskin strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, a new timing certificate, and a very cool copy of the repair manual for this model detailing the movement parts and their operation.
