Add a touch of mid-century modern fashion to your dress watch collection with this 1960s Seamaster De Ville.
Today's offering showcases this handsome 14K gold Omega Seamaster De Ville in pleasing condition with Union Oil presentation. It is an uncommon model made for the U.S. market.
The Seamaster DeVille, showcasing both refinement and high function, was the most important Omega line from a sales perspective in the latter part of the 1960's into the 1970's. It featured a monocoque - or one piece - case which insured water resistance and a slim, elegant profile.
Powering the watch is Omega's top-tier caliber 550 movement, and one of the superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. Arguably the finest mass-produced automatic movement from era, despite the appreciation it receives it too remains not yet fully appreciated.
The case measures 34mm in diameter without the crown, the diameter of a Rolex Date watch.
This model has a solid flat case back and was often sold as a corporate watch as it was well-suited to be engraved with a special message.
Here, the 14K case is complete with a personalized engraving, celebrating a gentleman named Clarence Wagner and his 41 years of service to Union Oil Company in 1966. He would have started his career there in 1925, 7 years before The Union Oil Company of California (later known as Unocal) even introduced the Union 76 brand to their existing Union Oil service stations. Think of the history this watch has seen.
The dial has vintage styled baton markers and with more highly stylized markers at three, six, nine, and 12 o'clock. Its subtle yet distinctive, geometric element gives the watch a mid-century modern feel, reminiscent of the architecture and design of the era.
We are pleased to offer it in all-original condition down to the original band and buckle. Its case is in excellent condition. It retains strong lines. Its original dial is untouched and honest with fairly mild aging. And it movement is very clean.
One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it. It winds smoothly. and is keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch we have meticulously detailed it making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
