Introduced during the golden era of Heuer’s rise as the dominant force in motorsport timing, the Camaro ref. 7743 remains one of the brand’s most distinctive expressions of racing-inspired design.
Its one of those rare mid-century chronographs that seems to vibrate with the atmosphere of its era. Born in 1968 - when Formula One was at its most dangerous, when drivers were heroes who strapped themselves into aluminum fuel tanks with nothing but courage and instinct - the Camaro was designed as a piece of timing equipment first and a piece of jewelry second. It was the watch for the enthusiast who followed racing not as spectacle, but as a way of life.
Heuer built the Camaro at a moment when they were becoming the dominant name in motorsport timing. By the late 1960s, Heuer timing systems were fixtures at Formula One circuits, rally stages, and endurance paddocks around the world. Their split-second chronographs were clutched by scorers at Monte Carlo; their dashboard timers sat bolted into rally cars; their gear sat on the timing bridges above the world’s most important circuits. The Camaro was conceived within this culture - something intended to feel as tough and mechanical as the pit lane it was born from.
The Camaro was created squarely within that competitive environment, reflecting the bold geometry, high legibility, and mechanical reliability that professional teams demanded. Its cushion-shaped case sits at the crossroads of two eras - pairing the classic aesthetic of 1960s hand-wound chronographs with a forward-looking design language that echoed the muscularity of racing instruments.
Powering the watch is Heuer's manual-wind Valjoux 7730 movement - trusted in this period for demanding timing environments.
This example captures that lineage with exceptional authenticity. We are pleased to offer the watch in excellent all-original condition.
Its original silver dial displays its crisp matte finish, cleanly applied indices, printed minute track, and two sharply recessed sub-registers with concentric guilloché. The untouched tritium luminous material has tone evenly and attractively across hands and plots. It has one small loss of finish by seven. Otherwise it presents as mint.
Its stainless steel case retains excellent definition, with attractive factory-style brushing that highlights its distinctive form. It shows only very light wear. It has never been polished so retains very strong facets. A light polishing could make it present as mint.
One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $995 value).
It is running very strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new TAG Heuer chronograph.
For the finishing touch, we have meticulously detailed it and installed a brand new dark gray vintage distressed style leather strap and aftermarket correct Heuer style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Like always, included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
The watch presents as a cohesive and well-preserved example of Heuer’s motorsport DNA.
