1973 Bulova Accutron Astronaut Mark II Retro Mens GMT Watch, 10K Gold-Filled - Near New-Old-Stock

Bulova

Item No. AB 5

Launched in 1960, the Accutron at the time was the world's first fully electric watch and the most accurate timekeeping mechanism ever devised. They are remarkable watches with a fascinating story - the tuning fork technology was originally developed for NASA because of its accuracy and had to be hidden from the Russians.

The Accutron was so accurate that the U.S. government asked Bulova to delay the release of the cutting edge movement for fear the technology may fall into the hands of the Russians. An Accutron watch movement sits on the moon's Sea of Tranquility today, in an instrument placed there in 1969 by Apollo 11 astronauts.

Today's offering showcases this uncommon, striking, and slightly exotic Accutron Astronaut Mark II in true like NOS original condition. We acquired it from the collection of noted collector, Mack Davis. It is a seldom seen Astronaut model with large "disco volante" type asymmetrical case. It also has a second hour hand for dual time zone capability.

It has its original Accutron band and buckle. It the band shows very slight signs of ever being worn and the case has slight marks near the bottom of the bezel. Otherwise it is like new-old-stock. It is a very rare time capsule type piece!

We had the movement fully serviced and the coil replaced by one of the leading Accutron experts in the U.S. Other than servicing the movement, it is untouched.

Included with the purchase is a 90-day C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function.

Note that we have several other special Accutrons we are offering for sale from the Mack Davis collection. If you are an Accutron collector you don't want to miss them.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.

Bulova Accutron:
Accutrons were originally guaranteed to be 99.9977% accurate on your wrist (not just in a laboratory). The fact that they never needed to be wound, was astounding at the time and resulted in their sweeping popularity.
