Omega's flagship line for decades, the Constellation represents style, luxury, attention to detail, robust function, and most all, superior precision. Elegant and stately, it is suitable for both casual and professional dress.
Today's offering showcases this retro styled classic Constellation chronometer in steel and 14K gold with a striking Tiffany & Co. "robin egg's blue" color dial.
While most of the examples of this style came in all steel cases, this less common example has its original 14K gold bezel.
Featuring an officially certified automatic chronometer movement with quick-set date and a robust case, this early 70's era Omega demonstrates why the Constellation was the company's flagship line.
Powering the watch is Omega's very fine thin automatic caliber 1021 movement. It has 23 jewels and is adjusted to five positions and is double quick-set.
Because the automatic gears are integrated into the movement, instead of being mounted on top of a manual-wind caliber as was often the case, and paired with indirectly driven minute and seconds, the caliber has space in the center for a strong rotor bearing, despite the low profile.
Here are some of its features:
* Pioneering so-called "double quick-set" day and date complications - This is an early double quick-setting day date Omega watch. Omega created the 1020 series movement with a double quick-set capability for convenient setting of the day and date.
* Though many connoisseurs associate the idea of the double quick-set watch with Rolex, which first offered the President model with this "new" feature in late 1990, Omega's 1020 series mechanisms were a pioneer of the technology in large scale production watches.
* 14K gold bezel
* High grade movement officially certified as a chronometer by the C.O.S.C. and adjusted to five positions and to run accurately across a wide range of temperatures
* Ultra-thin design automatic movement measuring only 4.25mm thick
* Thinner rotor to reduce stress on key winding parts
* Hacking feature for accurate time-setting
* Pleasing "Tiffany blue" color dial with "wide boy" indices that have a tuxedo striping, one of our favorite marker designs for the era. Their appearances change as they catch the light at different angles.
* Distinctive retro styled case
We are familiar with this reference having an integral bracelet. This may be a version that wasn't made to have one, or more likely, it may have been the space between the lugs previously perfectly altered to accommodate a leather strap.
It has fully original parts, with the exception of its new correct Omega stem and crown, and presents in gorgeous condition - about a 9.7 out of 10. Our photos couldn't do it justice!
The case presents as just short of perfect mint with very slight aging on the underside of the case. Its facets present as perfectly crisp. On the wrist, it presents as gorgeous mint.
Its original Omega dial was meticulously custom refinished at the time of the restoration - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration, a Master Watchmaker has freshly overhauled it. It is running strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new Omega in our testing recording position.
For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new leather strap and aftermarket Omega style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
A five decade old Omega that looks like new on the wrist!
