1920's Audemars Piguet Like Tiffany & C0. Antique Art Deco Ultra Thin Mens Pocket Watch - Platinum

Audemars Piguet

Item No. 9475SH

Encased in platinum, the most expensive precious metal of its day, and made by one of the premier watchmakers in the world, Audemars Piguet, this special piece was one of the company's top-tier offerings, made for the U.S. market.

It was made at a time when wristwatches were just beginning to catch on, and many if not most men hadn't transitioned yet from carrying a pocket watch.

We previously owned the same watch made by AP for sale through Tiffany & Co., with a Tiffany branded dial. A photo of it is in the listing.

This high-grade watch was equipped with Audemar's Piguets masterful ultra thin movement. Incredibly the complete watch with crystal measures a mere 5.4mm thick! Ultra thin watches have always captured my admiration because the watchmaking skill and extra care needed to make them are extraordinary. The tolerances are so small that each one is a horological achievement itself. This watch posseses a lot of technical sophistication and luxury for a timepiece in this price range.

The aesthetic centerpiece of the watch is is wonderful silver dial with 18K gold Breguet numerals. Depending on the angle of viewing it can appear either quite light or quite dark.

It has all of its original parts, down to all hands, the crown, and even the mineral glass crystal appears original!

Adding to its allure, it comes with what appears to be its original associated 18K white gold chain with very elegantly done with much hand-engraved detail. The chain is 14 inches long and the spring ring has previously been replaced with a sturdy one done in 14K white gold.

It is in very pleasing condition. Its original case, made for AP by A. Wittnauer, is in excellent condition with only light wear.

Its dial, with applied white gold Breguet numerals, presents as better than near mint. Its finish may be original or it may have been perfectly reprinted in vintage times. It high-grade AP movement is keeping time.??? Please inquire if you would like photos of the inside of the watch.
