For a hundred years, Elgin watches kept America on time and grew to the most prolific American watch manufacturer. Once worn by Buffalo Bill Cody, President Warren G. Harding, and Babe Ruth, the company's timepieces continue to be cherished as family heirlooms and special examples are avidly collected by those who appreciate American watches.
Today's offering showcases this very cool vintage direct read Lord Elgin. These futuristic watches utilized a mechanical digital display for the hours and minutes. They have a great futuristic yet vintage look.
This model is known in collecting circles as the Chevron because of the way the case appears to display the company's logo.
The word Lord in Lord Elgin signified Elgin's premium line of watches which featured higher jeweled movements and more desirable cases. The 21 jewel 6 adjustment caliber 719 movement is the highest grade movement used in the direct read Elgin watches.
The watch is all original down to the crown. Our watchmaker has freshly serviced the movement and installed an original new-old-stock crystal. Note that there was some wax on the crystal in the photos.
For the finishing touch we have installed a new high quality crocodile strap. Accompanying the watch is a vintage Speidel band that shows a calendar from 1974, which was on the watch when we acquired it.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
