When it comes to ladies watches, the focus was and still is normally much more directed to the what's on the outside of the watch than what's on the inside. That is not the case with this watch whose unusually high-quality engine would make most men's watches jealous.

Created in 1959, the caliber 44's winding system shared the same design as the well-known mens 85x series of movements found in IWC's mens dress watches and in Ingenieurs. The 44 was the first ladies "Pellaton" driven watch.

Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed mens Pellaton winding system based movement "one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland."

And the famous watchmaker Donald de Carle, in his book Complicated Watches and their Repair, stated that IWC's special automatic winding mechanism was "a simple and ingenious system, well constructed and beautifully finished."

It has 100% IWC parts down to the hands and winding crown. It presents in beautiful condition.

The full size case presents as excellent condition with slight wear to the case back. It originally would have been gold plated. On the wrist it presents as just short of mint. Its silver appears original and mint.

Its movement has been overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. Photos of the inside available upon request.
