1971 IWC Vintage Mens Jumbo Size Retro Watch, Cal. 8541B Pellaton Automatic - Stainless Steel

IWC

Item No. 9602

The superior and uncommon IWC featured in today's offering is powered by the Albert Pellaton designed Caliber 8541B movement.

This mechanism's automatic winding system is a technical masterpiece, earning it high praise - Gisbert Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli in their work, Wristwatches Armbanduhren Montres-bracelets, proclaimed the 85x series "one of the best automatic movements ever built in Switzerland."

And the famous watchmaker Donald de Carle, in his book Complicated Watches and their Repair, stated that IWC's special automatic winding mechanism was "a simple and ingenious system, well constructed and beautifully finished."

IWC built the movement of this watch in 1971at the same they were building their famous Ingenieur line.

It is an uncommon model, ref. 825A, and is though we about a hundred IWC's from the era, we'd never seen this one before. It is a rare jumbo size for the era, measuring 40mm in diameter without the crown.

It has a striking retro case that has a massive slightly concave bezel. Its retro style carries over onto the dial which has whitened steel baton indices similar in style to some Rolexes from the era.

All of its parts are original down to its dial, hands, and its original signed winding crown. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents as mint.

Its case presents as mint with light signs of previous polishing.

Its royal blue dial has been meticulously restored - the printing could pass as IWC factory done to the naked eye.

As part of the restoration, the movement has been freshly overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. It winds extremely smoothly and is keeping very accurate time. We have also timed it on a machine that spins the watch in all directions simulating it being worn on the wrist.

For the finishing touch it has been equipped it with a brand new leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.

You won't be disappointed - a more than half-century old IWC that looks like new on the wrist!
