1961 Jaeger-LeCoultre Vintage Mens Modernist Full Size Dress Watch - 14K Gold

Jaeger-LeCoultre

Item No. 5893

Long ago Jaeger-LeCoultre built their reputation as masters of watch design. In the 1950's (with certain models still being built into the 60's), Jaeger-LeCoultre crafted a group of very distinctive dress watches just for the American market.

The very fine and classic modernist wristwatch showcased in today's offering is one of these watches. From the thin gold case with stepped bezel with recessed crown, to the striking and distinguished Florentine dial with retro markers, it showcases classic sophistication throughout. Its wide bezel makes it a little larger than many mens dress watches from the era, measuring 35mm in diameter.

As fine on the inside as the outside, it is powered by Jaeger-LeCoultre's caliber 818 handwound movement. So advanced and well engineered is this exceptional caliber that its components were used by Vacheron & Constantin and Breguet (see comparative image of the two movements below).

It is all original down to the dial, hands, and winding crown and in wonderful condition.

Its large 14K gold case, which possesses short lugs and a recessed crown so as to not disrupt the purity of the perfectly symmetrical circular design, is in better than excellent condition. Its dial is original and just short of mint. Note that the dial came out looking just a little more gold/yellow in the photos than it does in person. It looks closer to silver in person.

Our watchmaker has just freshly cleaned and oiled the movement. For the finishing touch we have installed a new handmade calfskin strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting.
