Today's offering showcases this classic and beautifully restored c. 1960 Omega Seamaster. Powering the watch is Omega's top-tier caliber 501 movement with 20 jewels (instead of the more common seventeen jewel versions), one of the first superior 500's series movements.
It has swan's neck fine regulation and is one of the finest mass-produced automatic movements from era. It measures 34mm in diameter without the crown, the same size as a Rolex Date model.
Besides the classic calatrava case, the centerpiece of the watch is its crosshair dial with distinctive "wide boy" vintage markers.
It is fully Omega down to the hands and crown and has just finished a true expertly done restoration. On the wrist it presents as just short of mint. Note that the back has been aligned correctly since the photos were taken.
The very cool and desirable crosshair dial has just been meticulously restored - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration the movement has been freshly fully serviced by a Master Watchmaker. Remarkably after six decades it is still keeping time essentially on par with a brand new Seamaster in our testing position.
Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch's performance.
For the finishing touch it has been equipped it with a brand new Calfskin leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Note: Published examples of similar watches can be found in Marco Richon's work Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 403.
The Seamaster:
Omega is perhaps best known by watch connoisseurs for its Seamaster line of dive watches. Introduced in 1948, they have been embraced by water sports enthusiasts and often marry a striking look with a high performance movement.
Omega watches are worn on the wrists of Michael Schumacher, Pierce Brosnan, Michael Phelps, and Ernie Els.
