1966 Omega Seamaster De Ville Vintage Mens Cal. 560 Automatic, Stainless Steel Watch - Only Approx. 3000 Made

Omega

Item No. 9298

The Seamaster, showcasing both refinement and high function, was the most important Omega line from a sales perspective from the latter part of the 1960's into the 1970's.

Today's offering showcases this rare, classic and pleasing Seamaster with rare caliber 560 movement of which only 3,000 examples were made. These movements were split across nine models, making each in effect a "limited edition." The 560 was a movement made only for the U.S. market to cut down on import tariffs.

It was one of Omega's superior 500 series movements, one of the last series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs, and one of the finest mass-produced automatic movements from era.

It is close to full size for the era - 34.5mm, which is in between the size of the Rolex Date and the Rolex Datejust.

This pleasing example has all of its correct Omega parts even down to its original waterproofing gasket!

Its case is in excellent condition with fairly light wear and only light signs of previous polishing. Its untouched original dial presents as just short of perfect mint to the naked eye and shows only light aging under magnification.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with correct Omega replacements, installing a new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).

It winds smoothly and is running very strong and true, keeping time on par with a new Omega in our testing recording position.

For the finishing touch, we have installed a new Teju lizard strap and aftermarket Omega style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

Note: Published examples of similar watches can be found in Marco Richon's work Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 403.
