Item No. 9996
$ 1,445.00
Today's auction showcases this rare, classic and pleasing automatic Omega. It features Omega's rare caliber 560 movement of which only 3,000 examples were made. These watches were made just for the U.S. market to avoid higher tariffs, and these 3,000 movements were split across 9 models, making each model in effect a very "limited edition."
Unlike most examples of this watch that have one of several variations of silver dials, this watch has a rare original light smoky gray dial with gilt lettering.
Its gold-filled top "tropical" steel back case has the look of a solid gold Omega without the price tag.
In construction, it is a Seamaster, but this model was only very rarely branded so on the dial. If you would like to see Seamaster signed examples of this reference, please check our inventory as of this writing we have one for sale in our collection.
With the one exception of the period crown, the rest of the watch has all of its original parts.
On the wrist, it presents nicely. Its case shows fairly slight wear and virtually none of the gold wear that is common with these. It has not been heavily polished so it retains strong lines.
Its light smoky gray dial is original and untouched, just short of mint with toning of the luminous and light ghosting of the signature.
One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it. It is keeping very accurate time. In addition to our usual testing we have also timed it on a machine that spins it in all directions simulating it being worn - it is running within 13 seconds per day.
Because of its small recessed crown, it's a great candidate for a watch winder so that you don't ever have to handwind it.
For the finishing touch, we have installed a new leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity
