Today's offering showcases this very uncommon and superior example of one of Omega's classic vintage gent's Geneve watches. Our photos couldn't do it justice!
It is our understanding that it was sold in small quantities only in the Japanese market. We acquired the watch in Tokyo. When we scoured the internet we could only find two others besides a previous one we owned (though we're not suggesting that only four pieces exist).
Powering the watch is Omega's top-tier caliber 565 movement used in Seamasters from the era, and one of the last superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs, and the top tier offering of the 500 series. It has 24 jewels and a quick-setting date and is one of the finest mass-produced automatic movements from the era.
It has a wonderful retro waterproof style case and striking Tiffany blue dial.
It is large for the era, measuring 37mm in diameter - larger than a Rolex Datejust.
It is fully Omega down to the hands and crown. It has just finished a true expertly restored condition and presents in gorgeous condition - about a 9.7 out of 10.
Its case presents as mint with only fairly light signs of having ever been polished. Its original Omega dial, redone in a custom color, has been meticulously refinished - its printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration, a Master Watchmaker has overhauled the movement.
1950's and 60's Seamasters are great buys as parts are readily available for their well-made movements, and they're not hard to service.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a new leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
A half-century old Omega restored to look like new on the wrist!
Omega Geneve:
Worn on the wrists of celebrities Michael Schumacher, Pierce Brosnan, Michael Phelps, and Ernie Els Omega timepieces rank with Rolex and other of the world's fine Swiss firms.
Beginning in 1953 Omega placed the name Geneve on the dials of some of the members of the 30mm collection which at the time were produced in the company's workshops in Geneve (to put Geneve on a dial of a watch certain components and processes must take place in Geneve) and later expanded the line of watches featuring the name. According to Omega the name referred to to the Genevan Observatory where the early 30mm calibers set a number of records.
