Today's offering showcases this classic and original Mark II Speedmaster, ref. 145.014 in pleasing condition.
While it is aesthetically different from the moon watch, it maintains the technical features of it. Powering it is Omega's 861 movement, the same mechanism used in the moon watches. And its beefy case and bracelet carry a strong retro style popular at the time.
The watch is fully Omega down to the crystal, and the dial is perfect. Its heavy waterproof case presents very nicely on the wrist and has wear to the back. An original Speedy with a great retro look!
In 2014 Omega released a re-edition of this watch to pay homage.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
The current retail price for the re-edition is $6,250.00 USD. This classic vintage original that will remain collectable can be had for a fraction of the price.
Omega Speedmaster Mark II:
The Speedmaster Professional Mark II was introduced in 1969 and was the successor to the moon watch and marks the first departure from the main moonwatch line to have been made available to the general public.
While it is not known whether Omega intended this watch to become the new moon watch, Omega's US Agent and Sales Manager paid a visit to the NASA in Houston and proposed the Mark II as an alternative to the already in use and most appreciated "moon watches".
For the first time in the Speedmaster line, the watch uses a flat mineral crystal with the timing scale printed on the inside. This watch is published on pages 52-53 of “The Master of Omega”.
