Today's offering showcases this gorgeously restored example of one of Omega's rare vintage gent's watches.
Known in collecting circles as the Flying Saucer or in Italian "Disco Volante," it has a dramatic, avant-garde flair, yet is elegant enough to be worn on the wrists of men of distinction. Both Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe made their own versions of Disco Volante watches.
The case possesses hidden lugs and a recessed crown so as to not disrupt the purity of the perfectly symmetrical circular design. It is an uncommon extra-large size for a dress watch from the era, measuring just over 40mm in diameter not including the crown.
It has a monococque - or one-piece - design, which when new achieved high water resistance ratings by not having a separate case back.
Besides its extra-large case it also features a gray dial with white printing giving the watch a great monochromatic style.
Powering it is an Omega automatic engine found in Seamasters and other models from the era.
It is fully Omega down to the hands, winding crown, and even signed crystal! It has just finished a true expertly done restoration. The case presents as mint with light signs of having been polished, and the dial has been meticulously restored - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled. It is keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new calfskin leather strap with contrast stitching making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
A nearly half-century old Omega that presents like new on the wrist!
