1973 Omega De Ville Mens Midsize "Emerald" Modern Watch with Tiffany Blue Dial By Andrew Grima - Stainless Steel

Omega

Item No. 8206

Today's offering showcases this fabulous avante-garde "Emerald" DeVille watch, inspired by the designs that Andrew Grima created for Omega and introduced in 1971.

"Grima, who was arguably his generation’s foremost jeweler, counted Queen Elisabeth II among his clients. The Emerald line is distinguished by the generous proportions of its emerald-cut crystals of precious stone, quartz or mineral glass.

Initially, the pieces were reserved for the top of the Constellation range but as the Emerald line was extended, they were  increasingly seen in the De Ville line. The Emerald line was only produced at OMEGA until 1973 but it left a lasting impression. Though a lost line at OMEGA these watches remain a "Premiere" collection today showing just how good the design was." - via Omega Museum.

Its emerald cut crystal protects its distinctive dial. It presents in gorgeous restored condition.

The case presents as mint. The case top would originally have been gold plated, although they also made these watches in an all steel version that looked like this watch.

The Tiffany & Co. robin's egg blue dial has had a true expertly done custom refinishing - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.

Originally a mens watch, it could also be a ladies watch that really makes a statement.

As part of the meticulous restoration the fine original ultra thin Omega movement, adjusted to two positions, has just been serviced by a Master Watchmaker. Photos of the inside available upon request. It continues to keep time on par with a new Omega in our testing position.

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new calfskin strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.

Andrew Grima:
Mr. Grima was honoured with an impressive array of prizes including twelve Diamonds-International Awards. He was the first jeweller to win the Queen's Award for Export in 1966 and is the only jeweller to have won the Duke of Edinburgh Prize for Elegant Design. In 1970, at about the same time he was designing for Omega he was appointed jeweller to Her Majesty the Queen. He was commissioned by Omega to create a highly aesthetic avant-garde collection. Grima was given a free hand and chose to stick to one principle: he would create the watch around the dial, no matter what its form or dimension.

His work is carried on by his wife and daughter, and the Grima website can be found here:
