Today's offering showcases this original very cool and highly functional first generation Speedmaster X-33. These Speedmaster Professional watches have been discontinued for sale though they are said to still be available for purchase by space agencies.
As the story goes, the X-33 was developed by Omega allegedly by receiving input from NASA astronauts and pilots about what functionalities they found useful. After five years of testing and prototyping, the X-33 all of the requirements were met to be officially qualified for Space missions by NASA.
Omega launched the watch on March 28, 1998, at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, and the unveiling was conducted in conjunction with a live satellite uplink to the Russian MIR space station, which already had pre-release prototypes of the X-33 aboard for final testing.
Saying the X-33 is feature rich would be an understatement. It features a titanium case with 4 pushers and titanium bracelet, a large display with local time, date (perpetual calendar), programmable alarm, mission timer, mission alarm, universal time (GMT), universal alarm, countdown timer (with alarm) and a chronograph.
This X-33 is in gorgeous condition. On the wrist it presents as a 9.8 or 9.9. The bezel insert is perfect. The only real visible wear to the watch are one mark underneath each lug.
It is fully Omega down to the Omega buckle and has been fitted with an aftermarket leather strap.
The watch was recently serviced, and the only issue with it is that the backlight is no longer working.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
