1993 Florida State University Seminoles Mens Championship Watch - Owned & Worn By Burt Reynolds

Champions

Item No. 7007

Today's offering showcases this very cool 1993 Florida State National Champions watch that was owned and worn by the late Burt Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds was voted the world's number one box office star for five consecutive years (from 1978 to 1982) in the annual Top Ten Money Making Stars Poll, a record he shares with Bing Crosby, but this watch honors his deep love for FSU football.

The watch was made in a large limited edition of 10,000 to commemorate the national championship won by the Florida State Seminole football team under coach Bobby Bowden. An FSU helmet ticks its way around the face, moving each second.

The season gave the Seminoles their first national title as well as their first Heisman winner in quarterback Charlie Ward.

As FSU fans will know, Reynolds was a huge presence on campus.

Before starring in TV shows such as Gunsmoke and movies like Deliverance, The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, Cannonball Run, and Boogie Nights, the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination, Reynold earned a scholarship to play halfback at Florida State.

Knee injuries curtailed his promising future with the program, but Mr. Reynold loved it the rest of his life.

While attending Florida State, he roomed with one Lee Corso - the famed college football broadcaster who remains a staple of "College Gameday," who he stayed friends with long after they left campus.

As Reynolds' acting career picked up steam, he managed to earn parts in some of Hollywood's more famous sports movies -- including the lead role of Paul Crewe in "The Longest Yard" in 1974, as well as a supporting role as Coach Nate Scarborough in the 2005 remake starring Adam Sandler.

He also played a starring role in the 1977 football movie "Semi-Tough," which co-starred Kris Kristofferson. He even had roles in non-football sports movies like the 1993 baseball film "The Man from Left Field" and the 1999 hockey cult classic "Mystery, Alaska."

His presence in sports wasn't just felt on the silver screen. He continued to support Florida State his whole life and was often spotted on the sidelines or in the stands during gameday. He was the unofficial mayor, and supported the program financially, making donations to help buy uniforms and endow scholarships.

The watch is in very good condition and the strap shows significant signs of having been worn by Mr. Reynolds.

It is just as we acquired it, slight dirt and all.

We have performed any needed servicing and installed a new battery making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity and Provenance.

Note: An article describing Mr. Reynolds dear relationship with the FSU football can be found here.

Our new Connoisseur of Time Celebrity and Historical Events Collection:
I am very pleased to launch with this watch our new Celebrity and Historical Events Collection, which will be composed of watches owned by celebrities or that were given to commemorate an important historical event.

This watch is the very first in our new collection and will be followed by watches (and perhaps clocks) from Elvis Presley, Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope, others from Burt Reynolds, and King Edward VIII and the Duchess of Windsor. I am actively seeking out watches owned by public figures and hope to soon be able to offer others from Olivia-Newton John, Mae West, Lucille Ball, and Marilyn Monroe.

Also coming soon is a watch given a handful of years after the Civil War concluded by the Vice President Elect to honor an Army commander who went on to receive the Medal of Honor. This will be an exciting new collection you won't want to miss!
