Today's offering showcases this very cool Florida State Seminoles watch that was owned and worn by the late Burt Reynolds accompanied by a number of his FSU pins and cufflinks including on that says FSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
For Florida State faithful, few names are woven into the school’s story like Burt Reynolds. Before the box-office hits and swaggering on-screen charisma, he was a Seminole halfback whose Hollywood career began only after a knee injury ended his time on the field.
This Timex bearing the Florida State Seminoles logo comes directly from Burt Reynolds’ personal collection and carries that unmistakable FSU connection he championed for decades. It is not about haute horology, it is about owning a tangible link to a star who never stopped celebrating his alma mater, the kind of feel-good artifact that starts conversations at tailgates, alumni events, and film-lover gatherings alike.
Mr. Reynolds was voted the world's number one box office star for five consecutive years (from 1978 to 1982) in the annual Top Ten Money Making Stars Poll, a record he shares with Bing Crosby, but this watch honors his deep love for FSU.
As FSU fans will know, Reynolds was a huge presence on campus.
Before starring in TV shows such as Gunsmoke and movies like Deliverance, The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, Cannonball Run, and Boogie Nights, the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination, Reynold earned a scholarship to play halfback at Florida State.
Knee injuries curtailed his promising future with the program, but Mr. Reynold loved it the rest of his life.
While attending Florida State, he roomed with one Lee Corso - the famed college football broadcaster who remains a staple of "College Gameday," who he stayed friends with long after they left campus.
As Reynolds' acting career picked up steam, he managed to earn parts in some of Hollywood's more famous sports movies -- including the lead role of Paul Crewe in "The Longest Yard" in 1974, as well as a supporting role as Coach Nate Scarborough in the 2005 remake starring Adam Sandler.
He also played a starring role in the 1977 football movie "Semi-Tough," which co-starred Kris Kristofferson. He even had roles in non-football sports movies like the 1993 baseball film "The Man from Left Field" and the 1999 hockey cult classic "Mystery, Alaska."
His presence in sports wasn't just felt on the silver screen. He continued to support Florida State his whole life and was often spotted on the sidelines or in the stands during gameday. He was the unofficial mayor, and supported the program financially, making donations to help buy uniforms and endow scholarships.
