The beautiful and very fine pocket watch showcased in today's offering is an all-original example of one of Patek's late key wind watches. It features a Patek caliber with distinctive moustache counterpoise on the lever, frosted gilt finishing, and self-compensating flat balance spring.
The case is gorgeously hand-decorated by Patek throughout all of its outward facing surfaces. It is extremely ornate - a wonder to look at under magnification. Even our magnified photos don't show a few of the tiniest engraved details and patterns that can be found on it. One can only imagine the hours a master jeweler spent crafting it.
It is original with a numbers matching case and presents in pleasing condition. Even more pleasing is that it comes with its original box - which still has its original signed Patek Philippe tag affixed to it with the watch's serial number - and contains an extra crystal from the factory. The neatly folded paper that protects the crystal even has its original ink marking of the watch's serial number.
Also accompanying the watch is a solid 18K gold Breguet style ratchet key that likely is original to the watch.
Its case presents in excellent original condition with only very light wear. As is often the case the front lift spring has lost some of its zest over the years, and the bow is a period gold-filled replacement. Its untouched porcelain dial is in mint condition, flawless in the visible portion.
One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it making it ready for immediate enjoyment. It is keeping very accurate time.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
If you would like us to obtain an Extract from the Patek Philippe archives for you please inquire. Patek charges 500 CHF to provide one.
Patek Philippe:
Patek Philippe bears the standard of the finest watch manufacturer in the world and holds world records for the most expensive watches in the world.
During the 1860's and '70's, Patek Philippe produced only fewer than approximately twenty watches per day (contrast this with Omega and other fine watch manufacturers that produced 500 - 1,200 pieces per day) making original examples very rare and collectable.
