One of the more seldom seen classic vintage Rolex watches is the Oyster Royal as Rolex made most watches of this style with a date.
It features a much thinner profile than the Perpetual models due to its hand-wound movement, and its understated and very classic design contrast the "busier" look of some of the modern Rolex watches. It's a watch that is perfectly at home being worn everyday or only for special occasions.
Today's offering showcases this Certified Pre-Owned early vintage ref. 4444 "Shock Resisting" Rolex Oyster Royal in gorgeous restored condition. Rolex was a fairly early adopter of using shock protection in their movements, and the 4444 was one of the first models to offer it, as the dial proclaims.
Its dial has 1/2 second markings for precision, technical, and sporting timing uses.
Although most Oyster watches are encased entirely in solid gold cases, steel, or steel and solid gold cases, the so-called "Tropical or Hypoallergenic" examples feature a gold shell top with original stainless steel back making it is more rugged and durable, especially when worn in warm or wet climates. And it offers the look of being solid gold for a fraction of the price.
Housed in one of Rolex's water-tight Oyster cases, the wristwatch originally offered its owner complete protection against water, dust, and perspiration. Inside the rugged case Rolex placed one of their Cal. 700 series handwound movement.
It measures 32mm in diameter so is well-suited for someone who does not have a large wrist.
It has all Rolex parts and has just finished a true expertly done restoration. Our photos couldn't do it justice.
Its case is in gorgeous condition - it presents as just short of mint with light wear around the edge of the back. On the wrist it presents as just short of perfect mint.
Its dial has been meticulously restored - the printing could pass as Rolex factory done to the naked eye.
As part of the restoration it has just been freshly overhauled by a Master Watchmaker (a $495 value).
For the finishing touch it comes equipped with a calfskin leather strap and a gold tone aftermarket Rolex style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
