One of the more seldom seen classic vintage Rolex watches is the Oyster "Shock-Resisting" as Rolex made most watches of this style with a date.
It features a much thinner profile than the Perpetual models due to its hand-wound movement, and its classic design contrast the "busier" look of some of the modern Rolex watches. It's a watch that is perfectly at home being worn everyday or only for special occasions.
The 6083 was one of the relatively few Rolex models to feature the short-lived Super Oyster crown which was produced for only approximately three years. The “Super-Oyster” winding crown was an attempt by Rolex to create a waterproof winding crown which did not need to be screwed down. While the system itself worked, in time the rubber seal perished and therefore this crown type was phased out after only a few years of production.
The 6083 was also an early shock-resistant Rolex as noted on the dial. And its engine turned bezel add a touch of extra class to it, differentiating it from many of the more utilitarian models in Rolex's mid-century Oyster line.
It measures 34mm in diameter, the size of a Rolex Date watch. Powering it is its original Rolex handwound movement with early shock resistance.
It has fully original parts.
Its case has signs of previous polishing to the bezel and remnants of wear to the back. On the wrist it presents as scratch-free, its Rolex dial, which might be original or might be a very nice vintage refinishing, shows slight aging and has toned to a light sepia giving it a true vintage look. Its original high-grade handwound movement is keeping very accurate time.
One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it and installed a new crystal. We have timed it on a machine that spins the watch in all directions simulating it being worn on the wrist, and it is keeping very accurate time.
For the finishing touch it comes equipped with a period correct Rolex leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment. As of this writing we have a period correct Rolex buckle in stock for the watch. Please inquire if you would like to pair it with the watch.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
