Today's offering showcases this uncommon Rolex Oyster Royal model #6144 encased in stainless steel. Built only in the early 1950's, these watches are fine and desirable.
Housed in one of Rolex's water-tight Oyster cases, the wristwatch originally offered its owner complete protection against water, dust, and perspiration. Inside the rugged case Rolex placed their Cal. 710 handwound movement. As its dial proclaims, its movement featured an early version of shock-resistance.
The 6144 is one of the more uncommon mid-century Oysters. Its silver dial with 1/5 second markings for precision timing for technical, racing, and demanding uses presents superbly with its all original Rolex 'feuille" steel hands and lollipop blue steel seconds. The gold accents give the watch a dressier look and more versatility for both casual and more dressed up looks.
As a 31mm mens midsize, it can be worn well by anyone with smaller wrists.
We have just finished a sympathetically done restoration. Our photos couldn't do it justice.
Its Super Oyster crown, whose seals often failed after only a few years, has been previously replaced - otherwise all of its parts are original to the watch.
Its case presents in beautiful condition. Its dial has just been restored by one of the leading dial experts in North America.
One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex parts, installing a new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).
It is keeping time on par with a new Rolex in our testing position.
For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new lizard strap and aftermarket Rolex style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.
