"Take a new look at Tudor" was the slogan in the 1990's advertising their very classy Monarch line. A discontinued series from Tudor dress watches, these watches feature a clean dial design with classic numerals, a coin edge bezel, Rolexesque bracelet, and Tudor-enhanced ETA quartz movements. Though the Monarch was not a strong commercial success, which makes pre-owned examples rarer today, its influence can still be seen in Tudor’s modern dress watches, the Style line.
Measuring 37mm without the crown by 41mm in diameter, it is essentially the same size as a Datejust.
If you're not familiar are not especially acquainted with watches from Rolex's Tudor brand they are similar to Rolex in design and construction, but utilize different movements. The brand has experienced a strong revival in the last decade in both the new and the collector market, and certain vintage models have skyrocketed in value.
When Rolex launched the Tudor brand in 1945, they strongly intended that the public perception of its quality had to equal that of Rolex. To achieve this lofty aim, until the mid-1990's, Tudor watches featured Rolex cases and crowns, and, until 1971, Rolex bracelets.
This Certified Pre-Owned Monarch is in beautiful original condition accompanied by its original boxes and polishing cloth. On the wrist it presents as just short of mint. Its case shows remnants of wear to the unpolished back from the bracelet contacting it. The top of the case has only slight remnants of wear which could be polished out. The unpolished 18K bezel is very nice. The bracelet presents as better than near mint.
