1920's Rolex Art Deco Vintage Mens Bow Tie Dial Tonneau Watch - Sterling Silver

Rolex

Item No. 8579

Today's offering showcases this rare and handsome Art Deco tonneau Rolex. As a mens midsize, it is well-suited for someone with smaller wrists.

In the first decade after the turn of the twentieth century when someone referred to a gentleman's watch they most often meant one object - a large, timing instrument kept in the pocket. That changed in part because of Hans Wilsdorf, a true legend in timekeeping history, who founded Rolex Watch Co. in 1908. When the first World War erupted, demand rose sharply for these novel watches as Allied servicemen needed a more suitable way to access their vital timepieces.

At the close the of the war watch company's continued further down the path of having wristwatches eventually replace pocket watches as the timepiece of choice.

At the heart of the Art Deco era, shortly after their release of the very first Oyster watches and before they began to specialize in mostly sport watches, Rolex crafted dress wristwatches of very fine quality.

This very fine Art Deco Rolex features a pleasing tonneau case and fine hunter caliber Rolex handwound movement.

The centerpiece of this watch is its awesome original two-tone "bow tie" dial - our photos couldn't begin to do it justice!

Its four sections alternate between looking like the lighter or the darker sections depending on the angle the light hits it as the watch movements on the wrist.

It is double signed "Prouds", the long-established Australian jeweler for whom the watch was made.

Its original silver case is excellent condition with only light wear and light rippling to the back. Its wonderful dial is original and untouched with even natural aging and patina.

Our Master Watchmaker, our highest level watchmaker, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex parts, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $795 value).

It is keeping incredibly accurate time for a Rolex of this vintage, running within eleven seconds per day in our face-up testing position.

For the finishing touch we have installed a new calf leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.

Don't miss the chance to own a rare Art Deco Rolex with original bow tie dial.
