1951 Movado "Futuramic" Vintage Mens Watch, Thin Automatic - 14K Gold with Coin Edge Bezel

Movado

Item No. 5954

During Movado's glorious period from 1912 through the 1950's, when such innovations as the polyplan movement, Calendomatic, and exceptional in-house chronographs pushed the envelope of horological technology, and original designs such as the Museum watch took their place in history, their wristwatches enjoyed a level of prestige reserved only for works of the finest watchmakers.

The awesome Movado Futuramic watch showcased in today's offering is a prime example of one of these wristwatches. Its case is masculinely elegant with large claw lugs and strong coin edge. The design of the watch gives it a much bigger presence on the wrist than its 34mm diameter would suggest. And the 14K case is fully Swiss made, not an American Movado case.

For the movement Movado used its very fine "in-house" Cal. 115 movement made at the company's workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which it claimed was the world's thinnest automatic movement at the time.

Its dial nicely complements the look of the rest of the watch.

It is 100% original down to the hands and cabochon winding crown. The beautiful case is near mint and crisp, never having been significantly polished. On the wrist it looks just short of mint. The back has storage marks from the original band that was still on the watch when we acquired it.

Its untouched silver dial has warmed to sepia tone, giving it a true vintage look. And the well-made movement is keeping very accurate time.

Our watchmaker has freshly cleaned and oiled the watch. Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch's performance.

Please note: A published example of this model can be found in Fritz von Osterhausen's work The Movado History, 1996, p. 129.
