Zodiac

Item No. 4631

Today's auction showcases this uncommon 14K gold Zodiac Rotographic watch belonging to West Point Right Guard Flay O. Goodwin and commemorating the 1955 Army - Navy football game. The back is inscribed F.O. Goodwin - Army 14 - Navy 6 - 1955. It has a pleasing cushion case and fine automatic Zodiac movement. It is fully original down to the signed Zodiac crown. The original dial is very nice. It was recently serviced and is running true. Besides being an excellent collector watch, it's also a great piece of Army history. Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

1955 Army-Navy Game History:

1955 was the year of Red Blaik's "Great Quarterback" Experiment. Faced without a proven quarterback since Pete Vann had graduated earlier that spring, Blaik remained in a quandary. "Who do I play at QB for my team this season?" The Master came up with the idea that he would take his best athlete on the team and place him at the position. This was the 29th Army victory in the series, to 23 for Navy and four ties.
