1958 Rolex Oyster Shock-Resisting Classic Vintage Mens Handwound Watch - Stainless Steel

Rolex

Item No. 8932SH

One of the more seldom seen classic vintage Rolex watches is the Shock-Resisting Oyster as Rolex made most watches of this style with a date.

It features a much thinner profile than the Perpetual models - its understated, elegant and classic design contrast the "busier" look of some of the modern Rolex watches.

This uncommon reference, ref. 6480, made only for a limited amount of time in the '50's, served as the predecessor to the long running 6426 and 6427 models.

Rolex was a fairly early adopter of using shock protection in their movements, and the 6480 was one of the early models to offer it, as the dial proudly proclaims.

Today's offering showcases this impressive Certified Pre-Owned mens Rolex Shock-Resisting Oyster in gorgeous sympathetically restored condition. It measures 34mm in diameter - the same size as a Rolex Date watch.

Powering the watch is its Rolex early Caliber 1210 handwound movement with early shock resistance.

It has all of its original parts down to all hands, uncommon Rolex + winding crown, and original Rolex Oyster "expanding rivet" bracelet. Generally these spring loaded bracelets are pretty shot, but this one is in wonderful condition with springs that spring strongly all the way back to keep the bracelet links secure.

It has just finished a true expertly done sympathetic restoration which sought to give the watch a gentle cosmetic lift while retaining all of its original parts and bringing its mechanical operation back to a high level. Its original hands show a nice patina.

It presents in gorgeous condition. Our photos couldn't do it justice.

Its case presents as mint with moderate signs of previous polishing. Its dial has been restored by one of the leading dial experts in North America.

As part of the restoration one of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex parts, installing a new mainspring and gaskets, reassembling and lubricating the movement (a $695 value). It is running very strongly.

For the finishing touch, we have meticulously detailed it making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
