1960's Vacheron & Constantin Vintage "Extra-Flat" Modernist Mens Watch - 18K Rose Gold

Vacheron & Constantin

Item No. 8587

Today's offering showcases this very fine mens Vacheron & Constantin watches in 18K rose gold with ultra-thin caliber 1003 movement.

It showcases wonderful modernist design sensibilities with its sophisticated bezel and distinctive style. Its classic and simple understated silver dial and hands, give it a fashionable yet elegant vintage style. Its wide bezel has a wonderful guilloche finish.

Just as fine on the inside as it is on the outside, the watch is powered by Vacheron & Constantin's legendary extra-flat movement, co-developed with Audemars Piguet. Released in 1955 to celebrate the company's bicentennial, this minuscule mechanism is the thinnest movement ever created for a normal size watch, measuring a mere 1.64mm!

To honor the achievement Vacheron & Constantin presented personalized examples to several key Heads of State including President Dwight Eisenhower. Only a few luxury watches in the following decades would lay claim to this movement earning them reputations as masterpieces of twentieth-century watchmaking.

Like only the very finest watches in the world - select watches from the likes of Patek, AP, and V & C, it is adjusted to five positions, heat, cold, and even isochronism (the amount of wind left in the movement). The movement is stamped with the prestigious Poinçon de Genève attesting to its origin and quality.

Like many dress watches from the era, though it originally was a mens midsize watch, it is a small unisex size by today's standards, although its wide bezel gives it a larger presence on the wrist. It measures 27mm in diameter without the crown.

We were fortunate to acquire the watch in all-original condition. All of its parts are original down to the dial, hands, and original small Vacheron & Constantin winding crown.

Its 18K rose gold case is in near mint condition. Its untouched original dial is also in near mint condition with only light aging visible with the case closed.

Note that the photos make the aging look more prominent in them than it does in person.

Its extremely high-grade Vacheron & Constantin movement is clean.

Our Master Watchmaker has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components, installing a correct new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value). It is keeping very accurate time.

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new Teju lizard strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Accompanying the watch is its original Vacheron & Constantin "box" pouch.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
