1966 Jaeger-LeCoultre Vintage Museum Watch, Modern Art - 14K Gold & Diamonds

Omega

Item No. 6737

One of the iconic designs of the 1960's was the Museum watch, first created by Movado. The design inspiration for their dial with no numbers came from the idea that time is not known by a number sequence, but rather by the position of the sun as the earth rotates.

On this dial, one simple marker was placed at the 12 o-clock position to symbolize the sun at its peak at noon. The "diamond version" featured in today's offering is another iteration of the Museum watch, a masterpiece selected by the Museum of Modern Art for its permanent collection in 1960.

Speaking about the Museum Watch, Greta Daniel of the Museum of Modern Art commented to the watch's designer, Nathan George Horwitt: "...I found that the continuously changing relationship of the moving hands to the 12 o'clock it created attractive geometric patterns which were fascinating to observe. I realize that this aesthetic pleasure can only be derived from a carefully balanced relationship of pure geometric elements..."*

Today's offering showcases this 14K gold and diamond LeCoultre version of the watch. It's original and in pleasing condition.

Its monococque case is in beautiful condition. Its dial is original with some surface aging of the finish. And its movement is near pristine.

One of our watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it. It continues to keep very accurate time.

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new genuine Teju strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance.
