1970 Bulova Accutron Deep Sea 666 ft. Divers "Deep Six" Bakelite Coke Bezel Vintage Mens Watch - Stainless Steel

Bulova

Item No. 5751

Launched in 1960, the Accutron at the time was the world's first fully electric watch and the most accurate timekeeping mechanism ever devised. They are remarkable watches with a fascinating story - the tuning fork technology was originally developed for NASA because of its accuracy and had to be hidden from the Russians.

The Accutron was so accurate that the U.S. government asked Bulova to delay the release of the cutting edge movement for fear the technology may fall into the hands of the Russians. An Accutron watch movement sits on the moon's Sea of Tranquility today, in an instrument placed there in 1969 by Apollo 11 astronauts.

Today's offering features this rare and very cool Accutron Deep sea in a diver's case with elapsed time bezel. It is a great looking and exotic example of an Accutron. It is fully original down to the dial, bakelite bezel, all hands, and original crown. We installed a brand new correct style crystal and will include the watches original crystal with the auction.

Here are some of the watch's features:
  • Uncommon and desirable so-called "Deep Six" model with revolving bakelite elapsed time bezel
  • Originally guaranteed to be 99.9977% accurate on your wrist (not just in a laboratory)
  • Quick-setting date function
  • Easy to read luminous dial
  • It never needs winding - a remarkable feat fifty years ago
  • Full size 40mm Deep Sea divers style screw back case

Our watchmaker has just performed any needed servicing and has installed a new new battery. Accompanying the watch is its original Accutron box/display case. Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.

This a rare and exotic watch with a legendary movement available for under $1,000.
