1983 Breitling Superocean "DEEP-SEA" Ref. 81190 Diver's Watch - Stainless Steel

Breitling

Item No. 8472

Today's offering showcases this awesome SuperOcean "Deep-Sea" in gorgeous condition with original box. For the past few months the watch has been in the owner's collection.

In 1983, Breitling, building on the heritage of its successful SuperOcean line, pushed through previous technical boundaries with the creation and launch of an extreme interpretation of its diving icon: the new SuperOcean “Deep Sea.”

Given the ref. 81190, it was the company's first watch with a helium escape valves, and the valve on this model was integrated into the caseback. It has a removable bezel and removeable bracelet both secured with heavy duty screws.

While the SuperOcean from the 1950s and 1960s were more often by elegant gentlemen at the beach club rather than seasoned divers, the “Deep Sea,” with its water resistance set at 1000m, was intended for use by well-trained divers in extreme conditions.

If you're not familiar with helium escape valves, this impressive water resistance is made possible because of its patented helium escapement case-back that functions as a valve and enables accumulated helium to be released which protects the watch from exploding when the diver swims rises back up to the surface. If it weren't for the valve, when the diver began to resurface from deep depths, the crystal would blow out of the watch, regardless of how well it was secured.

It also features a cool ratcheting elapsed time bezel and highly legible dial with distinctive markers.

We were fortunate to acquire it in such amazing condition. Our photos couldn't do it justice. The case presents as just short of mint. The back has very light remnants of wear from the bracelet contacting it. On the wrist is presents as gorgeous mint. The bezel has a perfectly strong ratcheting motion.

Its untouched original dial is also mint with beautiful light pumpkin toned luminous. And its original crystal with cool Breitling logo is also mint.

Powering the watch is Breitling's quartz engine. A Master Watchmaker has performed any needed servicing. For the finishing touch we have meticulously detailed it making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Accompanying it is its original Breitling box.

Like always, included with the purchase is a full one-year international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
