In the 1940's, no name better captured the idea of embracing the best life had to offer than that of Tiffany & Co. One of their special offerings to their most discriminating female clients was a line of jeweled watches emblazoned with the Tiffany & Co. name on the dial. Although the maker's name were always hidden, the retailer contracted with a number of the world's fine watch and jewelry making firms to produce these treasured timepieces.
One such firm was Cresarrow of New York, one of the best case manufacturers of the day. Founded by Henry Blank in the late nineteenth century, Cresarrow contracted with Patek Philippe, Vacheron & Constantin, and Tiffany & Co. and other firms to build some of their wristwatch cases for the U.S. market.
Cresarrow also supplied movements for Tiffany's watches, as is the case with this special watch. Evidence suggests the company worked in collaboration with C.H. Meylan, a high grade niche manufacturer, and IWC Schaffhausen for production of their movements.
Today's offering showcases this beautiful 14K gold, diamond, and sapphire Tiffany & Co. watch made by Cresarrow. We were fortunate to acquire it in all-original condition, down to the dial, hands, and even winding crown.
It was done in a very traditional/popular Cresarrow for Tiffany style with large spherical lugs and finding and snake mesh bracelet. We recently sold a second very similar example of this model that was accompanied by an independent appraisal from a GIA certified appraiser that listed its retail replacement value for insurance purposes at $8,000. Please inquire if you would like to see it.
Its 14k gold Cresarrow for Tiffany case is in excellent condition with previous signs of polishing and light wear on the bezel. Its silver Tiffany & Co. dial is original and untouched with only light aging. It could expertly restored if you prefer the look of a restored watch...please inquire. And it very fine, Swiss made movement is clean.
One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer, was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker, and has done work for the Cartier Service Center, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing the set bridge with a correct original replacement, installing a new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).
We have also timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its functio and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
Accompanying the watch is a later period Tiffany & Co. pouch and box.
If you are looking for a special treasure for someone in your life, this is it. Modern Tiffany watches don't match the charm and romance of this vintage original.
