1946 Jaeger-LeCoultre Vintage Mens Triple Date Calendar Watch - 18K Gold

Jaeger-LeCoultre

Item No. 9746

Usually when things are complicated, it means more stress, more work, and more effort, but in the end, it's worth it. The same holds true for vintage wristwatches, where gifted artisans and engineers from years gone by labored months and years to create complicated timepieces that transcend art and talent. When it comes to vintage wristwatches, the highest realms of respect and value are reserved for these watches that do much more than merely tell time.

Today's offering showcases one of these very desirable watches. Powered by a complicated, original Jaeger-LeCoultre movement, this watch made shortly after the end of World War II possesses advanced capabilities that track the date, day of the week, and month, earning it its place as a true "Triple Calendar". And unlike some triple calendars, the month even changes automatically when the date advances to the first.

Besides the precision of its movement, its beauty makes it stand out. We have always felt this model is supremely elegant. Its case is large for a dress watch from the era - 36mm in diameter, the same size as a Rolex Datejust, and its beautiful tear drop lugs make it 46mm long lug tip to tip. And its red miniature track really complements the red date hand and gives the watch color.

Our photos couldn't begin to do it justice. JLC made these big beauties in steel, 14K gold, and 18K gold, like this one, their finest case material.

It retains its original parts down to all hands.

Its full size, attractive case presents in excellent condition with crisp, unpolished hallmark on the lug and side. It shows very little signs of any previous polishing. Unlike many if not most of these watches, whose lugs have had to have been reinforced by a jeweler or watchmaker at some point in their history, this case is honest and original showing no previous work done.

Its silver dial with its cut outs for displaying the month and day of the week in English, was previously expertly restored and is bright and clear. And its complicated Jaeger-LeCoultre movement is clean.

One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $995 value). The stem has the tinest bit of a bend in it which is only noticeable when really scrutinizing the crown while winding. All functions work well.

It is running extremely strong and true, keeping time better than many new JLC's in our testing recording position.

For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a new Teju lizard strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function, a full-page custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.

Note: A published example of this desirable model can be found in Zaf Basha's fine book, Jeager LeCoultre: A Guide for the Collector, pp. 60-65. One can also be found in Franco Cologni's Jaeger-LeCoultre: The History of the Grande Maison, 2006, pg. 334.
