In the 1930's through the 50's, in the midst of their high output of utilitarian sports watches, Rolex also made much more elegant dress watches. These fine wristwatches often combine a superior hand-wound mechanism with beautiful aesthetics.

The elegant and timeless dress Rolex showcased in today's offering is a prime example of this phenomenon. It features very fine and dramatic styling and a well-executed handwound movement. The case has original Rolex factory applied Florentine texturing, and the dial has its original Rolex spun finish, a finish Rolex only used around this time.

Its gold case, dial, markers, and hands, give it a very luxurious monochrome gold style.

It measures 34mm without the crown - the same diameter as a mens Rolex Date model and two millimeters smaller than a Datejust.

Powering the watch is its high-grade original caliber 1210 handwound movement with sweep seconds.

We were fortunate to acquire it in this all-original state - it presents in beautiful condition.

Its case has extremely crisp lines and perfectly crisp hallmarks. The back has very slight signs of previous polishing and the lugs show only very slight remnants of wear. Its coronet and case number just slightly visible. On the wrist it presents as just short of mint.

Its fabulous untouched original dial is mint. Under magnification it shows only the slightest signs of aging.

One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker (for many years now Rolex has not "certified" watchmakers, they only "train" them), has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex parts, installing a new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $795 value). It has markings from when it was serviced by Rolex in 1979 at their New York Service Center.

It is running extremely strong and true, keeping time on par with a new Rolex in our testing position.

For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap and aftermarket Rolex buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
